American Idol Season 6 Cuts - And then there were 7

April 11, 2007

Haley Scarnato
Okay, so Sanjaya is still here. He didn't do too bad on Tuesday. Even Simon said that it wasn't horrible. In my opinion, Haley hasn't been doing too well the last couple of weeks so it was only a matter of time before she was gone. I thought she should have been booted instead of Sabrina Sloan. Well, until next week... Who will it be?

American Idol Season 6 - Top 8

April 10, 2007
Jennifer Lopez Night

Melinda Doolittle
Randy: “Another solid performance.”
Paula: “Very, very sultry. Very smooth. You look lovely. It [the performance] was kind of subtle, sexy, and beautiful.”
Simon: “It had to happen Melinda. I didn’t like it.”

LaKisha Jones
Randy: “That was hot right there.”
Paula: “I didn’t feel it as much as Randy did. I felt it was a safe LaKisha performance.”
Simon: “You were having fun but I don’t know how much fun everybody at home would be having. It was kind of safe. It wasn’t great.”

Chris Richardson
Randy: “You did really good job. It [the runs at the end] was very cool.”
Paula: “It was a hot performance. You were sexy.”
Simon: “I preferred it [the performance] to the first two.”

Haley Scarnato
Randy: “For me man, that was really karaoke for me.”
Paula: “It’s not a singer song, but it’s a fun song. I think you had fun up there.”
Simon: “I think you have a good tactic up there Haley – wear the least amount of clothes as possible. You can’t do well in this competition based on your voice because there are much better singers.”

Phil Stacey
Randy: “You didn’t quite connect with the passion of the song.”
Paula: “I thought it was a real good vocal.”
Simon: “I found no originality in the performance.”

Sanjaya Malakar
Randy: “That was actually really good."
Paula: “It was nice. Very, very nice."
Simon: “I couldn't understand a word of it. You sang like a 14 year old. And I'm going to hate myself for this - it wasn't horrible."

Jordin Sparks
Randy: “It was absolutely great.”
Paula: “You’re adorable.”
Simon: “Okay performance. There’s nothing stunning.”

Blake Lewis
Randy: “Hot performance.”
Paula: “Very smart performance.”
Simon: “Best performance so far.”

INSIDE SOURCE: Sanjaya to make Final Three

This was just sent to me - here's the link: http://mensrea.typepad.com/

INSIDE SOURCE: Sanjaya to make Final Three
HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA- According to inside sources, Sanjaya Malakar will end up in the final three. To many he has become the ultimate novelty act. He is William Hung taken to its furthest conclusion. At least Mr. Hung had the self awareness to realize that it was a comical experience. Unfortunately, the public perception is mixed as to Malakar's awareness. Surely, he must, but according to several ex-contestents, including the recently voted off Gina, Malakar does not care what anyone thinks. Clearly. Surely the brass at Idol must be slightly concerned as their numbers are notably down, the simple fact is that it is reaching a new audience. It now is reaching the legions of Howard Stern fans (and universal contrarians all over) who are watching this season with voyeuristic pleasure. It is estimated that Stern, along with votefortheworst.com are responsible for over 50% of Malakar's total votes. When you factor in the tween crowd, who you know will use every one of their 10 votes on multiple phones (because that is what tweens do), that is a force to be reckoned with. Let us remember that it is the number of votes cast FOR a person. It is not like the SAT where there is a negative point system. Surely, if there were, the "Sanjaya Effect" would be minimized to nil. But let's face it, the marginal singers or those who just haven't shined in a given week do not stand a chance against Sanjaya's considerable and growing crowd. Yes, at this point he is not in the final three, but you watch, as the time gets closer, there will be more and more stories about this amazing social psychology experiment and people will start changing their votes. While we are not at the point of being so delusional as to say he'll be the next Idol, we can confidently say that he will be among the top 3 (four tops).
Who's going get voted off tonight? Heavy odds are for Phil. Why? Haley is cuter than his good natured bald head. Shallow? You bet, but America is a very shallow place as Idol shows us each and every week. Idol should compulsory viewing in college.

Gina Glocksen

It's gotta be just me that's starting to freak about AI. Will someone please tell me why after yesterday's performace, Sanjaya is still a contestant on AI. The judges didn't even have any comments about his singing anymore. Why? BECAUSE HE CAN'T SING!!!

Tony Bennett Night

Blake Lewis
Randy: “That was a very good way to start off the evening. You had a couple of pitch problems however.”
Paula: “You were great. You’re just cool.”
Simon: “Good choice of song. You performed it well. I give you 7 out of 10 and I give the band 8 out of 10. The band played a big part in that.”

Phil Stacey
Randy: “You sang it good but I just didn’t feel any real connection.”
Paula: “I still need you to just have more joy and warm those vocals up.”
Simon: “I think it had all the joy of somebody singing in a funeral parlor.”

Melinda Doolittle
Randy: “You come out here every week and you give everyone here a lesson on singing. This is how you do it right here America.”
Paula: “You’re like a master class for everyone else to watch. It was a flawless performance.”
Simon: “I thought the beginning of the song was a bit cabaret. I don’t think we’re ever gonna be able to criticize you.”

Jordin Sparks
Randy: “That was the bomb again. You’re like a pro and your 17.”
Paula: “Your hip, you’re cool. I’m just to freaking proud of you I don’t know how to say it.”
Simon: “I thought you sang it very well. I don’t think you made the song young and current.”

LaKisha Jones
Randy: “That was the bomb baby.”
Paula: “You sound beautiful.”
Simon: “That was a sassy, great performance.”

Chris Richardson
Randy: “I think this is one of your best performances of the whole season.”
Paula: “That’s true artistic integrity. You made it so hip and so cool.”
Simon: “I thought that was very good. I thought it was very believable.”

Gina Glocksen
Randy: “That was a very nice controlled performance.”
Paula: “That was a flawless performance.”
Simon: “I can’t rave about the vocals.”

Sanjaya Malakar
Randy: “I can’t even comment on the vocals anymore.”
Paula: “Vocals were a little off. You’re an entertainer.”
Simon: “Incredible.”

Haley Scanato
Randy: “I thought this might be a good week for you, what did you think Paula?”
Paula: “Did I mention green is a good color for you?”
Simon: “I think you’ve got great legs. It was a good style of music for you. It was a little bit pageantry I thought.”

Well, I thought Chris was pretty good but he had to go eventually. But, not before Sanjaya. Definitely not before Sanjaya. And once again, he's still here.

Gwen Stefani Night

LaKisha Jones
Randy: “You did that like a true fly diva. That was hot.”
Paula: “You did an excellent job.”
Simon: “You did great. Now you’re 30 years younger this week. A great vocal.”

Chris Sligh

Paula: “Vocally it sound really nice. You’ve got to feel that beat.”
Simon: “I thought it was a mess. It just didn’t feel right.”

Gina Glocksen
Randy: “I thought this was one of your best performances over. You’ve got that big ol’ voice, just believe and chose wise songs.”
Paula: “The song you picked allowed you to soar with your vocals.”
Simon: “Wasn’t one of your best performances. It was your best performance.”

Sanjaya Malakar
Randy: “The hair-do is definitely interesting. You can actually sing, just put it out there.”
Paula: “To watch you on stage and not go for it, it’s kind of like come on.”
Simon: “I presume there was no mirror in your dressing room tonight. I don’t think it matters anymore what we say anymore. You’re in your own universe. Good luck.

Haley Scarnato
Randy: “I wasn’t jumping up and down about it. It was kind of alright for me.”
Paula: “You should aim to be more contemporary.”
Simon: “I think it was sweet but forgettable.”

Pill Stacey
Randy: “I actually kind of liked that.”
Paula: “I would just work on building character in the verses. Other than that, it was a real good performance.
Simon: “This may surprise you but that was good.”

Melinda Doolittle
Randy: “You actually are living the words, not just singing them and that’s what a real singe does.”
Paula: “You so joyful when you’re singing.”
Simon: “Vocally you were, as usual, outstanding. Hate the outfit.”

Chris Richardson
Randy: “I’m not sure it was your best vocal but it was good.”
Paula: “You’re good your Chris, you’re good.”
Simon: “Good song choice but I don’t like your vocals.”

Randy: “That was a very risky thing to do. You could literally sing anything. That was brilliant.:
Paula: “I love seeing you in this kind of mode.”
Simon: “You’re probably the most improved contestant.”

Blake Lewis
Randy: “You made the most of it. I wasn’t jumping up and down but I liked it.”
Paula: “I loved what you did with the song. You’re making this whole competition hip and contemporary.”
Simon: “Definitely the strongest guy of the competition.”

British Pop Invasion Night

Haley Scarnato
Randy: “That was the perfect song for you. America Haley is back in the competition.”
Paula: “This was the perfect song for you. Good performance.”
Simon: “It was fun, young, a bit shrieky in the middle.”

Chris Richardson
Randy: “That was another great performance. That showed another different side of you.”
Paula: “It’s all about being smart with your choices. The whole thing was sexy and charming.”
Simon: “I think that was your best performance. Your control on the song was excellent.”

Stephanie Edwards
Randy: “It was a little pitchy for me.”
Paula: “Minus a little bit of some notes that fell off, you’re a great singer.”
Simon: “I think you are loosing your edge. I thought it was a bit night clubby. It was a cabaret performance.”

Blake Lewis
Randy: “This week you put together a very cool, edgy version of the song. That was brilliant.”
Paula: “This season I think is for Blake. I think you have raised the bar.”
Simon: “A million times better than last week.”

LaKisha Jones
Randy: “I think it was a good choice. I don’t know if it was my favorite performance.”
Paula: “You a very, very smart girl.”
Simon: “We know you are a fantastic singer. This was LaKisha in 50 years time in my opinion. It wasn’t my favorite performance.”

Phil Stacey
Randy: “It was a pretty good performance to me.”
Paula: “I actually think it was a real good choice of song. I feel there were a few parts that were pitchy.”
Simon: “I wasn’t crazy about it. I thought it was kind of third division bar band performance.”

Jordin Sparks
Randy: “That was a very tall order for you. I’m really impressed with you at 17 years old. Great performance.”
Paula: “Each week we learn just how great your range is becoming.”
Simon: “You sang it beautifully but I feel like jumping off a bridge. It was so gloomy.”

Sanjaya Malakar

Paula: “that’s what we’ve been waiting for.”
Simon: “I think the little girl’s face says it all.”

Gina Glocksen
Randy: “I don’t know if it was my favorite vocal. It was kind of okay for me.”
Paula: “It was miles better than last week.”
Simon: “Gina there were moments of complete torture in that vocal.”

Chris Sligh
Randy: “It started off a little bit rough but you wound up good. I think you ended it really strong.”
Paula: “I thought your vocals were really good.”
Simon: “I think you did your thing. I thought it was fun. It wasn’t the best vocal we’ve heard tonight. I thought you did a lot better than last week.”

Melinda Doolittle
Randy: “We’ve probably saved the best vocal for last. You are a pro up there.”
Paula: “You are in your own league.”
Simon: “You made the second part of the song sensational with an impeccable vocal.”

Wow, and I thought for sure that Brandon would at least make it to the top 5.
But can someone please tell me why Sanjaya is still here?

Diana Ross Night

Jordin Sparks
Randy: “At 17, I’m just so very impressed with you. Tonight with that, you just made it a 3-girl race.”
Paula: “You are a natural gift. You can sing your little heart out.”
Simon: “It was a little bit gooey I thought. I thought it was a very, very good vocal.”

Haley Scarnato
Randy: “You gave it a valiant effort.”
Paula: “Forgetting the words is never a great thing to do, your pitch…”
Simon: “I didn’t think it was that bad. I think we will remember you. I think you have real presence up there.”

Stephanie Edwards
Randy: “It was a good vocal. It was a strong finish. I don’t think it was your best though.”
Paula: “You have strong vocals without a doubt. Strive for better.”
Simon: “It was a strange variation of the song. I think you were completely out song by LaKisha and Melinda tonight. In my opinion, you chose the wrong song.”

LaKisha Jones
Randy: “Perfect song choice for you. Unbelievable vocal for you. That was sensational.”
Paula: “You’re a beautiful performer. Your heart comes through when you sing.”
Simon: “You’ve either got it or you haven’t got it. You’ve got it.”

Melinda Dollittle
Randy: “I don’t know if it was my favorite performance from you but it was really, really strong.”
Paula: “I’m one big goose bump.” (Paula in tears)
Simon: “You made a very boring song fantastic. You remind me of a young Gladys Knight.”

Gina Glocksen
Randy: “It wasn’t my favorite performance from you. It was pitchy in spots.”
Paula: “I feel like you’re much better than how you did tonight.”
Simon: “Gina, it was okay. It was one of those performances you can’t say much about.”

Sanjaya Malakar
Randy: “Dude, it wasn’t very good.”
Paula: “You really have to grab the audience. You have to explode with your vocals.”
Simon: “When you hear a whale in Beverly Hills, that is where Diana Ross is watching the show. She’s going to freak when she hears that.”

Phil Stacey
Randy: “The performance was a little boring, but you get the vocal performance of the night.”
Paula: “Your vocals were sounding really good.”
Simon: “It was okay. It was a very good song choice for you.”

Blake Lewis
Randy: “There were some good things about it. You don’t have to worry about “Blakizing” every song.”
Paula: “You’re a real good singer.”
Simon: “I didn’t get that at all. If you had that version in isolation or on radio, you wouldn’t like it. You didn’t sound as good as we have either heard you either.”

Brandon Rogers
Randy: “You came out like you had reverted back to a background singer.”
Paula: “We don’t need to tell you what you did wrong, there are many things that you do right.”
Simon: “That was a complete letdown. The dancing was terrible. You forgot the words.”

Chris Richardson
Randy: “You definitely kind of holding the line for the boys tonight.”
Paula: “I think out of all the guys you nailed the blend of bringing contemporary into it.”
Simon: “I thought it was dreadful.”

Chris Sligh
Randy: “That was a mess for me.”
Paula: “I worry that you try ultra hard to be ultra hip.”Simon: “I think you murdered the arrangement seriously.”
Simon: “I think you murdered the arrangement seriously.”
